My kids are so sympathetic. They are so neat, they make me laugh.

Earlier I told them that the dog didn’t understand our words, just the tone of voice we used, and I illustrated this by verbally abusing the dog in a super sweet voice. “Who’s a bad dog? You are such a bad dog! And you are so ugly, and no one likes you”, in this super sweet voice, the dog was eating it up, tail wagging, all wiggly. He was pleased as punch! Then I look at the girls and they look SHOCKED! I smile, and say, “see? he doesn’t know what I am saying!”…then I walk out of the room to fold laundry. When I return, both the girls have the dog on the floor rubbing his belly, and they are both whispering sweet nothings to him. “She didn’t mean it, you are a good boy. A very good boy, and everyone LOVES you. You are so cute. And it is not opposite day, I mean it. She did not mean what she said, this is the truth. You are a good good dog! We love you so much”. The dog, of course, ate this up as well…dunno whose point was proven.
